Dancing with Granny Blah Blah

We are in Richmond for Archer's second first birthday celebration with Granny Goose, Boo Dad, Aunt Mary and Uncle John, and Uncle Hugh and Katharine. Everyone gets here tomorrow, but we came early for a little R&R and because the dogs begged me. So today we went to visit Granny Blah Blah. She likes to dance too.

One Year Check Up

Archer had to go to the doctor yesterday for his first year check up. We were excited to show the doctor that he could walk a few steps, how much hair he had acquired and to finally stop guessing about how much he weighed. What they didn't tell us was that we would be getting 4 shots and have to have his blood taken (not a finger prick, but a full on needle to vein). Everyone was glad to be leaving the doctor's office.

Here are his stats
  • Height: 30 and 7/8 inches (75-90%)
  • Weight: 22 lbs and 9 oz (25-50%)
  • Head Circumference: 19 inches (90%)
He's a healthy boy and developing normally, although I think he is above average in every positive way imaginable.

Here are some pictures of him playing the other day in the cutest swim trunks Lindsay got him.

A Great Big Celebration!

Archer had a fabulous first birthday party despite the massive heat wave at the end of April. With the puddle pool for Archer's friends and the margaritas for our friends, we were set.
The highlights for me were watching Olivia run around in nothing but her underpants and party hat, seeing young David and Nugget play, talking with friends and being with sweetie pie Archer on his big day.

waiting for the cake...
The cake finally arrives.

The audience.

The adorable Short girls in their adorable party dresses waiting for a big slice of chocolate cake.

Cool Hand Luke.

The prize.

It has become a cake massacre.

Scout is now pooped from so much partying.

ps: Thank you so much for the pictures Lindsay and Katie!

Happy First Birthday Archer!

One year ago today you were born at 1:05pm. We could not comprehend how excited we would be over your birth. It has only gotten better over these past 12 months. Despite not getting a full night of sleep you are the best thing that has ever happened to us. We love you. (So do Scout and Brandy). Happy birthday baby.

We are excited about tomorrow Archer! Let's party like it's your birthday!!!!

Early Birthday Present #2

There is a great woman at the YES! Organic store in Brookland who always asks if Archer is driving yet. Mom came to visit today and we formally met Keesha who, of course, was excited by one of his first birthday presents: a car. The Little Tyke Cozy Coop 2009 is a present from Granny Goose and Boo Daddy and Archer loves it. Thank you!! (Uncle Hugh had a 1979 model I am pretty sure). He loves to beep the horn with his head and turn the key with his hands.

If you are wondering why none of these pictures are outside, it's been really rainy.

Early Birthday Present #1

Archer would not sit still for this photo, but here he is navigating his first first birthday present. He loves his tricycle! Thank you Gran and Grandad!

P.S. Today we went to the D.C. Aquarium. Who knew there was a D.C. Aquarium? We saw piranhas and eels and lots of fish. The highlight for me was seeing a large snakehead fish.

Kiwi Haka and Lion Face

Ever since my parents got back from New Zealand, Archer has been doing the Kiwi Haka, a Maori dance. Archer loves it.

I also found this book at the library, which Archer also loves.

A Walk in the Woods...

D.C. is a great town for many reasons. The museums are wonderful. For example, Archer and I went to the National Gallery of Art today to mostly people watch. We have seasons. I love spring in D.C. You should come see the tulips and roses at the Franciscan Monastery in our neighborhood. We can take the dogs for walks in Rock Creek Park, but they can't go off leash.

Richmond is a great town too. Does it compare to D.C.? The dogs think so. The dogs can go off leash in Richmond (at least by the river at my mom and dad's house). They tear through the fields and pick up cool things like dead deer legs with the hoof still attached. Scout literally trembles with excitement when he reaches my parent's gravel driveway. Brandy comes to a euphoric state where she doesn't stop barking. My sweet mom who often drives them down to the river wears ear plugs and sound blocking headphones. Mom, thank you for taking them so often.

Last Thursday was beautiful and the whole family decided to walk the dogs to the river. Although documented on leash, this is only before we get to the path to the river.

Brandy and Scout can't take the excitement any more and are pulling us towards their freedom.

The Photo Shoot

On Saturday we went to Moto Photo in Richmond to get a professional (budget) picture taken of Archer before he turned one at the behest of both of Archer's grandmothers. We walked in to the sound of crazy children's music. Then we spotted the bunny cage with the live pink-eared, white bodied, red eyed bunny inside. After waiting 45 minutes for the triplets ahead of us to finish their Easter pictures with the bunny, we were up...and Archer wasn't happy. I was ready to throw in the towel after 2 minutes, but with David's help Archer and the exhausted and sweaty photographer got along enough to find the perfect pre-one year old picture. Here are the results. I need a haircut, but our baby looks cute.

The Richmond's Children Museum

We went to Richmond this weekend for Easter. Yesterday we went to visit Granny Blah Blah, then to the Richmond's Children Museum and then to get our portrait done at Moto Photo. It was a jammed packed day. Here are some highlights from the museum:

Archer as a sports announcer for NBC 12 Richmond News
Playing in the triangle of mirrors.
Archer and Daddy with shadow puppets
Archer as a checkout boy for Ukrops
A car mechanic at the auto shop
More car repair
More NBC 12
